Seidenberger Re-Ups With East Penn at $163,415 a Year

The East Penn Board of School Directors votes 8-0 to renew Thomas L. Seidenberger's contract for five years.

At Monday night’s meeting of the the board unanimously voted to extend the East Penn Superintendent of Schools' contract for another five years.

Thomas L. Seidenberger, who has served as the East Penn superintendent since 2007, was awarded new five-year contract last night by an 8-0 vote at a starting salary of $163,415 per year.

According to an article in The Morning Call, the contract approved last night allows Seidenberger to receive a yearly salary increase equal to the most recent state Department of Education base index. However such raises can't exceed 5 percent.

Members of the board praised the impact Seidenberger has made on East Penn since taking on the role of superintendent, with Francee Fuller and Alan Earnshaw reminiscing about the superintendent search process.

Earnshaw said: “I can’t imagine that we ever could have made a better choice five years ago.”

Board member Julian Stolz admitted that he and Seidenberger haven’t always seen eye-to-eye through the years, but thanked Seidenberger for the debate.

“Bless you for wanting to continue to deal with me over the next several years,” Stolz added.

School Board President Charles Ballard also offered praise for Seidenberger and the impact he has made on East Penn during his tenure with the district.

“I am firmly convinced that we made the right choice five years ago. East Penn School District and the taxpayers have benefited greatly,” Ballard said. “You have always dealt fairly and equitably with the public and your staff. I wish you five more years of continued progress in the district.”

The contract is effective Aug. 14, 2012 through Aug. 13, 2017.

School board member Sandy Rhodes was not in attendance at Monday night’s meeting.
