East Penn Gets to the Heart of Sudden Cardiac Arrest

A cardiologist with Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network will talk to East Penn coaches, parents and student athletes about the signs of sudden cardiac arrest at Emmaus High School tonight.

Dr. Matthew Martinez, a cardiologist with Lehigh Valley Heart Specialists, will speak to coaches, parents and student athletes about sudden cardiac arrest at at 6 tonight, according to a press release on the Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network web site.

A new law in Pennsylvania requires schools to provide educational materials to students, parents and coaches to teach them the signs and symptoms that accompany sudden cardiac arrest. The law also mandates an annual informational meeting to further educate student athletes, family members and coaches about who may be at risk for sudden cardiac arrest.
