East Penn Enrollment Numbers Still Rising

Superintendent of Schools Thomas L. Seidenberger says board will get a report on class sizes in the fall.

Superintendent of Schools Thomas L. Seidenberger told the that the school district added 55 new students in the past two weeks.

In a report to the board at Monday night’s meeting, Seidenberger said that the district’s enrollment numbers have risen from 7,925 to 7,980. The 55-student increase breaks down to 31 new elementary school students, 16 middle school students and 8 additional high school students.

Moving forward, Seidenberger said, he and his team intend to provide the board with a comprehensive breakdown of class size numbers at all grade levels – meaning both the number of students in a given first-grade classroom as well as the number of students enrolled in a specific high school history course.

"It will help you to see the impact of staffing as you do the next budget,” he said. “It’s one thing to talk about elevated class sizes, it’s another thing to see it.”

Seidenberger said he would expect to have that information ready for the board in October. A limited number of high school students change classes during he first weeks of school and they will wait after that point to pull together the class size figures, he said.
