District says: No ‘Pink Slime’ in East Penn Lunches

East Penn School District posts statement on district Web site stating there is no pink slime in East Penn school lunches.

Lean Finely Textured Beef, commonly known as pink slime, has been garnering a lot of headlines these days. Several supermarket chains, including and have issued statements that they will no longer sell ground beef containing pink slime.

At the March 26 East Penn School Board meeting, Director Julian Stolz asked whether pink slime is being used in the meals served in East Penn lunchrooms. He said parents had been asking him about it, so that’s why he was bringing up the issue at the meeting.

Director of Operations Lynn Glancy said he would look into the matter and report back to the board at the next meeting.

On March 30, posted the following statement on the district Web site:

The East Penn School District did not use any beef products with Lean Finely Textured Beef (LFTB) or "Pink Slime" in them this school year. We will also not order any beef products that include LFTB in any future year.
