Barrett, Schware Win Nods for Lehigh County Commissioner, District 5

In the most contested of Lehigh County commissioner races, Republican Michael Schware and Democrat Wesley Barrett won their party's nominations in District 5.

Michael Schware won the Republican nomination for a Lehigh County Commissioner seat in District 5, and Wesley Barrett won the Democratic nomination, according to unofficial tallies from Lehigh County.

It was the most contested commissioner race in Tuesday's primary. Four Republican candidates were seeking their party's nomination for the seat.

Schware, of Allentown, won the nomination with 1,090 votes, over candidates Kevin Ryan, Norma Cusick and Nathan Brown, according to unofficial tallies.

On the Democratic side, two candidates were seeking their party's nod for the seat. Barrett, of Emmaus, won the nod over candidate Stephen Walters with 1,483 votes.

Schware and Barrett will now square off in the November general election for the four-year position.

District 5 includes Salisbury Township, Emmaus, Macungie, Upper Milford, Lower Milford, Coopersburg, Upper Saucon Township and parts of Allentown.
