Upper Milford Supervisors Appoint Final Member of Engineer Selection Committee

Panel ultimately will decide whether Upper Milford will change its township engineer

The Upper Milford Board of Supervisors appointed a township citizen on April 7 to a committee that will review proposals from companies seeking to be Upper Milford’s engineer.

William Weber will join the other members of the Engineer Selection Committee determined at the previous supervisors’ meeting: Supervisor Robert Sentner, Upper Milford Manager Dan DeLong, Planning Commission member Matthew Hunter and Brian Miller, planning coordinator for the township.

Weber, a former township tax collector, was the only person to respond to an advertisement for applicants by the April 1 deadline. His appointment was approved by Steven Ackerman, chairman of the supervisors, and Supervisor Daniel Mohr. Sentner was absent from the meeting.

T & M Associates of Bethlehem has been Upper Milford’s engineering firm for 11 years. However, Sentner first raised the issue of whether the township should choose a new engineering firm during a Feb. 17 supervisors meeting.

Sentner said then that he was concerned that T& M Associates had submitted a high bid for a project in the township on two occasions, including an engineering fees estimate for the renovation of the Yeakels Mill Road bridge.

Sentner, Mohr and Ackerman subsequently decided during a March 3 meeting to advertise for proposals from other engineering firms.

However, Ackerman assured Russell Benner of T & M Associates, who was in the audience on March 3, that the engineering firm could also respond to the request for proposals.

In other business on April 7, the supervisors authorized the township manager and solicitor to work out a lease agreement with Applied PC Solutions for the use of the former Upper Milford municipal building. The township moved its administrative offices to its new location in the former King’s Highway Elementary School about a year ago.

Also, the supervisors announced that the Borough of Emmaus and Upper Milford Township Joint Environmental Advisory Council will hold its annual Earth Day clean-up and other activities at , beginning at 8 a.m. on April 16. The park is located at 14th Street and Shimerville Road in Emmaus.
