Ticket Prompts Parishoner’s Appearance Before Council

Former Emmaus resident addresses Emmaus Borough Council Monday night about lack of parking around St. John's Lutheran Church.

A former Emmaus resident who attends addressed Monday night to share her concerns about the lack of parking around St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Faye Schuler, who now lives in Center Valley and says she “just loves Emmaus,” said that while her husband was in church on Sunday his car was given a $15 parking ticket for being in one of the on-street parking spaces near St. John’s past the two-hour time limit.

Schuler said that a parishoner who attends Sunday school, the church service and fellowship will be at St. John’s longer than two hours. She asked council to consider changing the parking regulations around the church, suggesting that the two-hour restriction perhaps be suspended on Sunday morning, since no businesses are open in the area of the church at that time.

Council president Lee Ann Gilbert, who chairs council's Public Safety Committee, assured Schuler that the parking issue is currently on her committee's agenda and that it will be disucssed at their next meeting.
