Supervisors Will pay for 'School Bus' Sign on Churchview

The Upper Milford Township Board of Supervisors last week agreed to install a "School Bus Ahead" sign on Churchview Road.

The Board of Supervisors last week agreed to install a “School Bus Ahead” sign on Churchview Road in response to a request by Churchview residents Len and Judy Hoch.

The Supervisors then denied the Hoch’s request for a “Hidden Driveway” sign near their property.

Interest in both signs was prompted by an incident in which a driver disregarded the stop arm of the school bus when the Hoch’s children were getting off the bus.

Supervisors Robert Sentner said that he didn’t think a Hidden Driveway sign on Churchview would have any effect. “I just don’t think anybody is going to slow down there because of a ‘Hidden Driveway’ sign,” he said.

“The School Bus sign is more of a deterrent than the Hidden Driveway sign,” he said, adding that he thinks mirrors work better than signs.

The Supervisors did say that the Hoch’s could pay to have the Hidden Driveway sign installed. Supervisors Chair Daniel Mohr said: “If they want it bad enough and they want to pay for it, it’s okay by me.”

The school bus incident that put the Hoch’s children in jeopardy was reported to the bus company, according to Township Manager Dan DeLong, who said it would be up to the school bus company to take action against the car driver.

“The bus company takes these things very seriously,” he said.
