Speaker Must Call Special Election for Reichley Seat This Week

Pennsylvania House Speaker has until Friday to seek a special election for 134th District seat vacated by Doug Reichley for it to happen during the April Pennsylvania primary.

The Pennsylvania House speaker has until the end of this week to set the wheels in motion for using the upcoming April primary election to fill the 134th District PA state representative seat vacated by Doug Reichley earlier this year.

According to a report on Lehigh Valley Live, Rep. Sam Smith must call for a special election by Friday in order for it to happen during the April 24 primary. State law requires the speaker to call for a special election at least 60 days in advance, the report says.

In the November 2011 general election, , of Alburtis, won a . He officially assumed his seat on the bench in January 2012, cutting short his fourth term as a PA state representative and leaving the 134th district without representation in Harrisburg ever since.
