Norristown Municipal Administrator Dave Forrest Resigns

Forrest announced his resignation on Friday.

Norristown's Municipal Administrator, David Forrest, announced his resignation on Friday, Jan. 25. Forrest told staff members in a meeting Friday morning that he was leaving to take a new position in Upstate New York. His last day will be Feb. 28.

Forrest was appointed municipal administrator by council in 2007 to replace former administrator Paul Janssen, who resigned in 2006 after reportedly costing the municipality over $170,000 due to a clerical error. At that time, Norristown Police Chief Russell Bono acted as interim municipal administrator during the search.

"I'm an optimistic kind of a guy," Forrest told The Times Herald in 2007 when he took the position. "I wouldn't be here if I did not think I could make a difference."

Forrest is leaving to take a similar post in Canandaigua, a small city in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York with a population of just over 10,000.

Patch has contacted Norristown Municipal Council President Gary Simpson and other council members on the Personnel Committee for comment. We will update this story with more information as it becomes available.

This is a really bad situation for Norristown. Of course, if Council had been proactive and had started a search for a Police Chief months ago, we would be in a better place. So starting in March - an Interim Police Chief and an Interim Municipal Administrator. Thank goodness it is winter. Maybe it will stay cold and things will be quiet.
