As of July 1, there will also be a guest pass available to borough residents to accommodate situations such as out-of-town guests. Up to five can be purchased at a time at a cost of $7 per pass.

The new rate structure, proposed by Emmaus Borough Councilman Wesley Barrett, who chairs council’s Parks and Recreation committee, was prompted by “bad behavior” at the pool. Behavior that Barrett says has been driving Emmaus Borough residents away from the pool for years.

In fact, Barrett said, had already come before Barrett’s Parks and Recreation committee to ask for council’s help with the issues at the pool with the pool season underway less than two weeks.

The Emmaus Community Pool opened Memorial Day weekend.

“I think we’ve pushed this off for longer than we should have,” Barrett said. “Chief Faust says it is truly a concern what goes on down there.”

After the meeting, Barrett said that in his six years as a borough councilman, there hasn’t been a single summer in which he hasn’t been contacted by residents repeatedly about problems down at the pool.

He also said that based on the information collected by when they have been called to the pool in past years, the problems are being caused by pool-goers who do not live in East Penn School District.

“That pool is a real gem,” Barrett said. “We need to protect it.”
