Emmaus Needs new Food Vendor at Community Pool

Borough of Emmaus is actively seeking a new food services vendor to take over the Emmaus Community Pool concession stand this summer.

The Borough of Emmaus is in the market for someone to make sure all the soda cups are topped off and the burgers are well done and at the Emmaus Community Pool this summer.

voted, at its Feb. 21 meeting, to begin advertising for a new food services vendor to take over the concessions stand at the pool in from March 26 to Sept. 3.

Council is looking for a vendor that can keep the stand open from noon to 8 p.m., primarily serving swimmers at the pool and visitors to Community Park.

Council is open to a variety of payment options for the rental of the concession stand, including a flat fee of $3,000, a percentage of receipts or a combination of the two.

This is not a situation in which council is looking to award the concession stand contract to the highest bidder as a way to make money for the Borough, explained Parks and Recreation Committee Chair Wesley Barrett.

Councilman Brian Holtzhafer said: “We see it as them doing us a favor by running this refreshment stand. We are hoping for at least one bidder.”

There was some discussion about making sure that the concession stand would be open for special events at the park, including the Summer Concert Series but council said that most park events would be covered by the noon to 8 p.m. hours.

Plus, Borough Manager Shane Pepe pointed out that council would be able to fine-tune the details of the concessions stand contract later, before the actual contract gets signed and that it wasn’t necessary to nail down all the specifics in the Request for Bids (RFB).

Barrett said he just wanted to get the RFB about need for a concession stand vendor out as soon as possible to ensure that the borough found someone in time for summer.
