Emmaus Council Hears From a Bunch of Daisies

As she stood at the podium, barely reaching the microphone, six-year-old Allison told she likes the , but not people smoking.

Allison attended council's March 5 meeting, along with some other Daisies in Girl Scout Daisy Troop 61130 of Emmaus. She and the other six-year-olds in her troop stood before council to share their likes and dislikes about the borough.

Dakota said she enjoys the park, but wants to change her school.

Leader Kate Heflin explained to the council members that the girls, who meet at , are learning about the different parts of the Girl Scout Law. The aspect they are currently working on is that of respecting authority, and troop leaders decided to bring them to the council meeting to better understand what this means, she said.

Felicity told council members she likes the ice cream store on the Triangle, but doesn’t like the bathrooms at the pool.

Some council members were a bit concerned at what Felicity said about the pool bathrooms and said they would look into the issues she raised. 

And Abby is quite content living in Emmaus, saying she feels very safe in the borough and wouldn’t change anything.

Heflin said she hopes the girls come away from the experience with more than respect for borough council as an authority. She hopes they understand that they, as well as other citizens of a democracy also have some authority, and that it comes with rights and responsibilities.
