Emmaus Borough Council Appoints Junior Councilman

Emmaus High School Junior Rowan Hobson unanimously approved to fill the Junior Councilman opening on Emmaus Borough Council.

Rowan Hobson, a junior at Emmaus High School, was appointed Emmaus Junior Councilman at the Oct. 1 Borough Council meeting by a 7-0 vote.

Borough Councilman Mike Waddell, who heads council’s General Administration committee, presented Hobson to council, highlighting Hobson’s success on the Emmaus High School tennis team during his freshman and sophomore years, as well as his role in the Student Government Association.

Hobson and his family are invited to council’s Oct. 15 meeting, where Hobson will be officially sworn in, Waddell explained.

“We’ve been looking for a junior council person for a very long time,” Waddell said. “We are looking forward to having Rowan with us and to having him actively involved. It will be good to have him on board.”

Hobson, who said he hopes to attend the U.S. Naval Academy after graduating from Emmaus High School, says he is looking forward to “reflecting the student voice” to council. He plans to attend all Emmaus Borough Council meetings as part of his new post, as well as some committee meetings. “I don’t know much about local government,” Hobson said. “It will be a great learning experience.”
