Broad Street Officially Re-opened Saturday

Several borough officials took part in brief ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the end of the Broad Street reconstruction project.

The borough of Emmaus held a short ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sat., Sept. 10 to mark the end of the Broad Street reconstruction project.

Emmaus Mayor Winifield Iobst, Borough Manager and Borough Council President Lee Ann Gilbert were among the borough officials who met on the corner of 5th and Broad streets for the "offiical" opening of Broad Street.

After lining up at the corner of 5th and Broad and ceremoniously cutting a red velvet ribbon with a pair of giant gold scissors, the group walked to the other end of the street and repeated the process at the junction of 6th and Broad.

An estimated asphalt cost is used at the beginning of any roadway project, he explained, as asphalt is a construction material with a constantly changing price tag. Once a project is completed, the actual cost of the asphalt used is compared to the estimated figure in the original project budget.
