Woman, 85, Struck by SUV and Killed, Police Say

An 85-year-old woman walking along Kings Highway South in Upper Milford Saturday is struck by an SUV and killed, state police say.

An 85-year-old woman walking along Kings Highway South in Upper Milford Saturday was struck by an SUV and killed, state police at Fogelsville said.

Helen L. Kemmerer, of 6625 Kings Highway South, was struck by the SUV at 11:25 a.m., police said. 

The driver of the SUV, Christopher J. Murphy, 33, of Fountainville, became distracted as he traveled south on the roadway, in the area of 6670 Kings Highway South, state police said. He was unable to stop in time, striking Kemmerer with the front portion of his SUV, state police said.

The Morning Call reported that Kemmerer had been crossing the street to visit a friend, as she often did.

Deputy Coroner Jason Nicholas pronounced Kemmerer dead at the scene, at 12:35 p.m.

An autopsy will be performed Monday to determine the exact cause of death.

State police and the coroner are investigating. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call state police at 610-395-1438.

Assisting at the scene were the old Zionsville Fire Department, Lower Milford Fire Department, Upper Perkiomen EMS, Lehigh County coroner and Detwiler's Towing.
