The Vera Cruz Community Association gave The Citizens Fire Company of Upper Milford a special holiday present recently, donating $5,000 toward the purchase of a new fire engine.

The check presentation happened during the community association's Christmas party held at the fire station Thursday night.

After 30 years, it's finally time to replace Citizens' first real fire engine, the 1983 Hahn, explains the community association in a prepared statement about the donation. The fire company currently has on-order a 2013 KME multi-use interface engine.

The new engine will be four-wheel drive, carry more equipment, including rescue tools for accidents, and be capable of going off-road for wildland fires, the community association statement says. It will have an 800-gallon water tank, 20-gallon foam tank and a 1,500-gallon-per-minute pump, compared with the old truck having a 750-gallon tank and a 1,250-gallon-per-minute pump with limited compartment space.
