Teen Charged in Car Break-in; 3 Other People Sought

Borough police report a rash of car break-ins in the early-morning hours of Dec. 1.

The early-morning hours of Dec. 1, a Sunday, was a time for car break-ins in Emmaus, borough police say, especially in the area of Fourth and Minor streets.

Police have charged an area teen and are looking for three other people involved in "numerous other thefts from vehicles that night," according to a police news release. They said more charges are expected.

Kyle Beitler, 18, whose address is listed as Mill Road, Emmaus (possibly Upper Milford Township), was arrested Dec. 1 after police got a call about car break-ins around Fouth and Minor.

Police said they spotted Beitler inside a car on the 200 block of Adrian Street. They said he tried to run when confronted. Another person in an adjacent car also ran and successfully got away, the release says.

Beitler was arraigned later Dec. 1 by on-duty District Judge Jacob Hammond of South Whitehall on charges of theft from a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property and underage drinking.

The police release does not say if Beitler allegedly took anything from the car in which he was spotted or from other cars.

Beitler waived the charges for Lehigh County Court action at a Dec. 9 preliminary hearing before District Judge Donna Butler of Emmaus, online court records say. He remained free on $20,000 unsecured bail.
