South Whitehall Police Conduct 'Operation January Slam'

South Whitehall Police targeted two areas looking for speeders on Jan. 24.


On Jan. 24 between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. South Whitehall Police conducted Operation January Slam, a traffic enforcement operation designed to target speeding vehicles in various locations throughout the municipality.

Officers used electronic spped timing equipment to target the 2700 block of Mauch Chunk Rd and the 4200 block of Broadway.

In all, 45 citations and ten written warnings were issued to motorists for speeding and other vehicle code violations.

Sgt. Mark Ruff said the other violations were mostly licensing issues.

bad example of an enforcement tool, local police are not allowed to use radar to identify speeders, only the PA State Police can do what the photo shows in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
