Police: Purse Snatcher Hid From Cops in the Trash

Phillipsburg resident charged with theft following chase from downtown bar.

Easton police say a Phillipsburg man stole a woman's purse from a downtown bar, and then hid in a trash container after she chased him.

Shawn Quick, 31, of Lewis Street, was charged Wednesday with theft and receiving stolen property.

According to police, Quick stole the purse from a woman at Rivals Sports bar. Officers responded to the bar, but a group of women flagged them down and said the victim had already begun to follow Quick. The woman lost track of him on the 300 block of Spruce Street.

Court records say Quick was later discovered in a large trash container. The purse contained a $200 cell phone, a $100 camera, plus cash.

Quick was arraigned before on-duty District Judge Richard Yetter and sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.
