Police: Missing Tire Leads to DUI Charge for Emmaus Man

Contact with driver who had lost a tire brings charge of drunken driving, troopers report.

The New Year's holiday no doubt had police out in force looking to pull drunken drivers off the roadways to avoid hurting others and themselves. Television commercials told us as much.

Police are taught the signs to watch: drivers weaving in and out of their lanes, perhaps driving too slow to be extra-careful or having slow and unsteady braking because they are impaired.

But a state trooper from the Fogelsville barracks added another suspicious act to the list of those worth checking when he made a traffic stop at 5:31 a.m. Jan. 1 in Upper Milford Township. Trooper Matthew Lowe came across a 19-year-old man who was missing one of his driver's side tires, according to his police report.

Michael Mark Conrad of Emmaus was stopped at Vera Cruz and Mill roads.  Contact with Conrad led to his arrest on suspected drunken driving, police said. Charges through Magisterial District Judge Donna Butler of Emmaus are pending test results.

"You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel..." (Sung to the melody from the song "Lucille" by Kenny Rogers)

@Howard R. Bachman, Jr. I apologize if you took my comment to mean I was laughing at the person in the article. I was merely commending @Jim Kahle for his funny comment. I happen to be a closet Kenny Rogers fan and found Jim's parody of the song "Lucille" to be funny.

I laughed out loud too - thanks Jim! And I may be jumping to conclusions here, but I'm thinking excessive alcohol consumption was probably involved. Lucky no one was hurt. Sorry, no sympathy here.
