Meth Lab Reportedly Busted in Hellertown

A local media source is reporting that the meth lab was discovered when borough police executed search warrants in the 400 and 500 blocks of Main Street Tuesday morning.

UPDATE - 12pm: The Express-Times is reporting that the police bust took place in a third floor apartment above Hero Electric, which is located at 520 Main St., Hellertown. No one else at the address had a connection to the alleged meth lab, police state in the story. Methamphetamine, money and lab equipment were seized, according to the article.

An alleged meth lab in downtown Hellertown was discovered when borough police executed several search warrants in the 400 and 500 blocks of Main Street Tuesday morning, according to a report published by Channel 69 on WFMZ.com.

A meth lab is a facility used to manufacture the illegal drug methamphetamine.

Meth labs can pose a risk to their surroundings because of the potential for combustion to occur as chemicals are combined during the drug manufacturing process.

Three people were taken into custody, Route 412 in Hellertown was closed for 30 minutes and police kept people out of the area while they removed contents from the alleged lab, although the area is now considered safe, the report indicated.

Good work in shutting this down! It could have taken out a huge portion of Main Street.

Kudos to our Police for keeping it low key as to not cause a panic and doing a fine job in getting the culprits.

Indeed! Many thanks to the Hellertown Police for shutting down this menace. I'm glad none of the officers on the scene were injured as a result of their proximity to these dangerous materials.

Job well done Hellertown PD. Hope they have a solid case to keep these people behind bars. And Please no slaps on the wrists. Theses people if found guilty, should be held accountable and punishable to the full extent of the law.
