It's Ba-a-a-ck . . . Snow, That Is

Pre-Halloween storm is a trick but no treat for region.

The forecast leading up to today just didn't seem possible.

Snow, and it wasn't even Halloween yet.

As if promises of a tease of a snowfall weren't enough, updated forecasts called for several inches.

But would it really happen?

The region had its answer as snow fell by morning. The snow was plentiful and it was heavy, so much so that by late morning the weight was pulling down electrical lines, causing minor fires and power outages. At 3 p.m., PPL was reporting nearly 5,900 in Lower Macungie Township were without power. (For current power-outage information, click here.)

The National Weather Service refers to the snowfall as a "major early season winter storm." The region can expect 8-12 inches of snow, tapering off between 10 p.m. and midnight. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 30s with winds at 10-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

Beautiful photos suitable for framing - would make a wonderful winter collage on someone's wall.

Thanks, Karen. It's a shame the scenes led to a fair amount of damage and inconvenience, but we tried to combine scenes of Halloween fun, beauty and news value to present the photo package that summarized events of the day. Again, thanks for noticing and taking time to say so.

Similarly, thank you, Jan. There was much beauty and Halloween fun to be seen when out and about on Saturday. Unfortunately, the heavy snow that helped make those scenes created much havoc. But again, thanks for noticing and taking time to say so. Thanks also to our viewer from Alburtis for bringing an additional image to viewers. We always encourage participation to make it as complete as possible.
