Icy Hill Leads to 3-Vehicle Crash

Emmaus man breaks ribs in accident near Vera Cruz, police say.

Saturday morning's freezing rain contributed to a three-vehicle accident in Upper Milford Townships that sent one Emmaus man to an area hospital with three broken ribs, according to police.

The trouble began about 9 a.m. when a car driven by John L. Laube, 18, of Emmaus got stuck on an icy hill, according to state police at Fogelsville. Laube's Honda Civic was stopped in the lane of travel and partially in the opposite lane on Vera Cruz Road just south of Quarry Drive.

A second driver, Jeffrey A. Oels, 56, also of Emmaus, became stuck in the opposite lane when he stopped because someone attempting to push Laube's car fell in the street, police said. Oels' Subaru Legacy was traveling southbound on Vera Cruz Road.

A third vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado driven by William Endean, 57, of Lower Milford Township, crested the hill northbound, police said. The truck hit the left rear of Laube's car and the front of Oels' automobile. Endean's truck and Oels' car had to be towed. Laube's car received moderate rear end damage, but did not require towing.

Oels was taken to Lehigh Valley-Cedar Crest by Emmaus Ambulance, police said. They termed the injuries moderate.
