Emmaus Woman Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash

Out-of-control pickup truck hit her car in Lynn Township, police say.

An Emmaus woman was killed Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident in Lynn Township that was fatal to both drivers, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Leigh Fritz, 27, of 325 Delong Ave., was pronounced dead at the scene of the 5:47 p.m. crash, police said. The other driver, identified only as a 33-year-old man from Germansville, also was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was being withheld until the next of kin is notified.

Police said the man was traveling eastbound on Route 143 about one-quarter mile from Route 309. He was traveling too fast and lost control as he rounded a curve. Fritz was westbound and was struck by the out-of-control pickup truck. The man was thrown from his truck.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene by Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim and Deputy Coroner Jason Nicholas, police said. New Tripoli fire and rescue units responded along with Northwestern Ambulance.

Fritz was an administrative assistant at Flavor Right Foods in Bethlehem, according to her companion, Jim Johnson. The two owned and operated a side business for three or four years from their home known as Excalibur Sales Inc., which provides vehicle graphics and auto parts.

Fritz was an Emmaus High School graduate from around 2002, Johnson said. He said they met about 10 years ago.

He described her as an "upbeat and cheerful person. She was very positive all the time. If any of her friend needed help, she was there."
