SUV Driver Hit Utility Pole, Escaped Injury, Police Say

Her SUV slid off the roadway as she was rounding a curve in Upper Milford, troopers report.

An Emmaus-area woman avoided injury recently despite her vehicle sliding off an Upper Milford Township roadway and into a utility pole and mailbox, according to police.

April A. Hollenthoner, 45, was traveling south on Vera Cruz Road at 7:35 p.m. Feb. 23, according to state police at Fogelsville. Her Ford Expedition began to slide as she tried to round a curve while approaching Quarry Drive.

Hollenthoner's sport-utility vehicle slid across the wet roadway, police said. The SUV sideswiped the utility pole with the left front portion of the vehicle. It next hit the mailbox head-on in front of 4777 Vera Cruz Road before coming to rest.
