Driver Badly Hurt in Upper Milford Crash, Police Say

His truck struck and snapped a utility pole, troopers report.

A Bethlehem man was seriously hurt Thursday when his pickup truck slammed into and snapped a utility pole in Upper Milford Township, according to police.

Steven J. Aronson, 54, was the driver who received major injuries in the 8:03 a.m. accident, according to state police at Fogelsville. The crash occurred in front of 4402 Main Road W.

Rescue personnel from the Emmaus Fire Department were called to the scene,  and the roadway was icy, according to scanner transmissions. The police report did not mention whether extrication was required.

However, Aronson was transported to a hospital by Emmaus Ambulance Corps.

Aronson's Ford Ranger was headed west on Main Road West when he crossed into the opposing lane and struck the utility pole, police said.

He was cited for driving too fast for conditions, police said.

Main Road West was shut down afterward until the roadway was salted, according to scanner transmissions.

The Upper Milford Township Fire Department Eastern District assisted.

Do they not know a car or truck slides on ice, and it was nice of the township to salt after the accident occured, where is their fine for failing to keep the roads from being a safety hazard.

Main Road is a state road and taken care of by Penn dot, not Upper Milford.

Did you know that vehicles that are driving too fast for conditions slide and snap utility poles? What happened to personal responsibility?

My mom slid into a pole at about 15 miles an hr when she hit black ice, how slow do you need to go, now yes she did not snap the pole, so I guess thats why they didn't fine her, but I am sure a pole can snap no matter how fast or slow it is hit if hit at the right spot.

And I have driven the hill on 29 3 days after a storm and it is pretty bad cars were taking turns going up and down the hill because it was nothing but ice. The 14th there was no storm and the roads should have been treated by then.
