Darius Maurer Sentenced to Life With no Parole for Killing of Emmaus Woman

Judge tacks on additional 5 ½ to 20 for rape in death of Donya Abdulrazzak, a Cedar Crest College student who worked in Weis Market, Emmaus.

Darius Kevin Maurer, 21, of 1317 Arch St., Tuesday was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of being paroled for the June 2010 killing of 20-year-old Donya Abdulrazzak, also of Emmaus.

Lehigh County Judge Kelly L. Banach added 5 1/2 to 20 years to the sentence for the rape.

According to Maurer, he and Abdulrazzak had dated and both worked at the Weis Market on Chestnut Street. He also said that killing Abdulrazzak was part of a suicide pact.

Abdulrazzak's family denies she was in a relationship with Maurer, according to Morning Call reports. At the sentencing, Abdulrazzak’s father, Sinnan Salih, called Maurer's claim that he killed Abdulrazzak as part of a suicide pact a lie and chastised Maurer’s defense attorney, John Waldron, for giving voice to the idea in a Morning Call article last year, the Morning Call reported.

Abdulrazzak was a Cedar Crest College student when her body was found in the woods along a walking trail in the Rodale Fitness Park on June 4 of last year.

In response to the sentencing, Emmaus Police Chief David A. Faust said:  "Under the awful circumstances of this horrific crime and the terrible tragedy to Donya and her extended family, we are contented with the actions of the Court and the Prosecutors Office in this case. This family did not deserve what has happened to them. On behalf of the police department, we again send our deepest condolences to Donya's immediate and extended family."
