Car Spins Out of Control on Kings Highway South, Damages Steps

In second crash, vehicle rolls down embankment on slippery R.222 ramp in Lower Macungie.

State police at Fogelsville released information about two car crashes Friday -- an afternoon crash in Lower Macungie and a morning mishap in Upper Milford.

The Lower Macungie crash occurred at 12:55pm on the rain-slick ramp from the Route 222 bypass to Brookside Road. The driver suffered minor injuries, but his vehicle rolled down an embankment and flipped onto its roof.

The vehicle, identified only as a 2002 Dodge and driven by Benjamin Bretzik, 39, of Macungie was southbound on the bypass when it got onto the Brookside Road ramp. Bretzik was making a right turn on the ramp when he lost control and slid off the roadway. The Dodge ended up on its roof at the bottom of the embankment, state police said.

The fax did not say if Bretzik was cited. The Dodge was towed by Faust Towing.

In the Upper Milford Crash, a Macungie man wasn't hurt but he was cited after he lost control of his car on Kings Highway South and crashed into concrete steps in front of a home.

State police said Brendon M. Bankos, 29, was driving south on Kings Highway South around 8:15am when his car's back end began to spin clockwise while in a right curve. Bankos lost control of his 2005 Subaru Impreza and applied the brakes but the car continued spinning and hit the steps in front of 5950 Kings Highway South.

Bankos was cited for violating the law for "driving vehicle at safe speed," a state police fax said.

Debris from the damaged steps was removed by a township maintenance crew. The car was towed by Getz's Towing.
