2 Rescued from Upper Milford Crash, Police Say

One vehicle turns on its side; other driver is moderately hurt in the accident, troopers report.

Two drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles Friday morning in Upper Milford Township following a two-vehicle accident during heavy rain, police said.

One driver was moderately hurt, and the second escaped with minor injuries, according to state police at Fogelsville.

Police noted heavy rain when Theresa Bucco, 47, of Zionsville was traveling south on Chestnut Street at 7:32 a.m. Bucco lost control of her Chevrolet Trail Blazer and spun into the northbound lane, police said.

The passenger's side of Bucco's sport-utility vehicle was hit by the front end of an oncoming car driven by Airfonzia J. Peterson, 43, of Douglassville, police said. Bucco's SUV turned onto its side in front of Herbein's Garden Center, 4301 Chestnut St. Peterson's Ford Fusion came to rest on the road's shoulder.

Both drivers were extricated from their vehicles by rescuers from Citizen's Fire Company of Vera Cruz and the Emmaus Fire Department, police said. A second rescue truck from the Lower Macungie Fire Department was called, according to emergency transmissions.

Both drivers were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest by Macungie Ambulance Corps. Peterson was moderately injured, while Bucco was only slightly hurt, police said.

Bucco was cited for failing to drive at a safe speed, police said.

Both vehicles received severe damage and were towed.
