Judith Lieberman, 93, Crime Protection Advocate

Community activist Judith C. Lieberman, 93, of Emmaus, died on Sept. 30, 2013.

Judith C. Lieberman, 93, of Emmaus and formerly of Spring Valley, N.J., died on Sept. 30, 2013, according to an obituary on legacy.com. Born in Jersey City, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Miriam (Schwartz) Cohen and she was the wife of the late Marc A. Lieberman, who passed away in 1985, the obituary says.

A lifelong advocate of crime protection, Lieberman earned numerous awards for her community activism, culminating with the Governors Citizen Crime Protection Volunteer Recognition Award in 2012. Lieberman, who at the time was a member of the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Elder Abuse Task Force, received a plaque and citations from Gov. Tom Corbett.

Lieberman was chairperson of Lehigh County TRIAD (The Right Information and Direction), an organization dedicated to developing crime prevention and education programs for older adults and striving to improve the quality of older adults’ lives by exchanging information between citizens and law enforcement.

Lieberman was the recipient of an Unsung Heroes Award in 2011 from the Lehigh County Office of Aging and Adult Services. She was a member of the Lehigh County Advisory Board on Aging and was instrumental in trying to establish a Project Lifesaver program in Lehigh County.

Lieberman also was involved in the following organizations and agencies: Apprise program, which helps people with Medicaid and Medicare insurance problems; Carrie program, which intervenes in cases of Medicare and Medicaid fraud; the Lehigh Valley Military Affairs Council; and Jewish War Veterans. She received a National Businesswomen’s Award from Nike, was a Girl Scout leader and graduated from Allentown, Bethlehem and Whitehall Township Citizen Police Academies.

Lieberman, according to her obituary, is survived by her children, Stephen Lieberman and his wife Linda, Martha Lieberman, Howard Lieberman and his wife Alice, Jay Lieberman and his wife Marcia; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
