Part 2: Some News You Can Use

The May meeting of the Emmaus Women’s Business and Professional Organization was held on May 12th at Fiesta Ole, a good place to hold a meeting.  The margaritas and food were delicious as we belatedly celebrated Cinco de Mayo, and our waitress, Deb, was helpful and attentive to our group.  Most of us were there in time to take advantage of the margarita special for happy hour.  We’ll definitely visit again!

As we write this blog, we were saddened to learn that our friend, Ray Seiling,  affectionately known as our "Emmaus beat cop" and/or "our traffic warden", passed away.  A fund has been set up for the community to make contributions in his memory.  A gift of a tree or a bench, to be situated someplace in Emmaus, will be purchased with the contributions, along with a plaque memorializing Ray.  His Emmaus friends can make a donation to the "Ray Seiling Memorial Fund." Contributions can be dropped off at any KNBT branch.  Ray was a great asset to the Emmaus community and he will be greatly missed... Until we meet again, friend!

On a lighter note, we had fun as we caught up with old and new friends.

Lynda Hoover, Business Services Center Manager of the Private Industry Council of Lehigh Valley, Inc., and Maribel Nieves, Placement Specialist, also of PIC, shared information about their jobs, the services that they provide and their personal interests.  Outside of work, Maribel designs jewelry and purses.  She and Sally Ullman  discussed partnering on projects.  Check out Maribel's creations at Maribel Nieves Vintage is Vogue.  Lynda and Nancy O'Keefe of La Belle Cuisine discussed working with one another also.  Lynda sells Pampered Chef products.  Nancy and Lynda felt that they could mutually benefit by referring customers to one another.

We were so happy to have Nicole Frierson, president of the Shops of Emmaus, join us again.  Even though her visit with us was only brief – in between appointments – Nicole updated us on the Shops of Emmaus' Best In Bloom event scheduled for June 11th.  The SOE board is excited to host the artists again this year.   It should be noted that Kathy Haney and Nancy O'Keefe are no longer on the SOE board and that questions, suggestions, submissions,  etc. should be sent directly to Nicole at:  info@shopsofemmaus.com

It's a small world it seems.  Maribel Nieves and Nicole Frierson may have known one another prior to meeting at this networking group.  It turns out that Nicole was a practitioner (angel readings and energy work) at The New Age Shop in Fogelsville.  Due to health issues, the owner closed the store about 2 years ago, at which time Nicole offered the practitioners space in her Fogelsville salon.  Nicole subsequently sold the salon to move her business (The Weeping Yogi) to Emmaus, where she continues her own practice and hosts other practitioners in the field of energy work, readings and yoga.  Maribel had recently taken her daughter back to the store in Fogelsville to find that it was closed, but was thrilled to connect with Nicole and find that the center is now right on the Triangle in Emmaus.  You can check out Nicole's offerings at their web site, under calendar of events.

Linda Abraham of The Impact Project was proud to report that The Impact Project's School Justice Program is so successful that the model has been adopted and will be run by the county (they are able to boast less than 1 percent of those in the program were re-offenders in a two year period).  Congratulations Joe, Linda and the staff at The Impact Project!  If you'd like to learn more about their programs, or to volunteer, click here.  Stay tuned for more on this one!

Don't forget Sally Ullman's Open House this week (May 18th).  Visit her facebook page for more info and to RSVP Facebook - Sally Ullman.  It should be a great time on Wednesday.  We hope to see everyone there!

Emma from Cottage has decided to sell the store that she has run for the last few years to concentrate on her latest venture A Storybook Party.  She is hoping to sell Cottage on Main to someone who has always wanted to open a gift store.  It is a turn-key business... you will be able to walk in and open the shop immediately.  Emma will miss all her regular customers and the many friends that she has made over the last few years but is very excited to work on her new project and spend a little bit more time with her growing family. You can email Emma with any questions:  Emma's Email

We are all looking forward to Countryside's opening at the former Perk location.  Bill is set to open on Memorial Day weekend.  Can't wait to get a rootbeer float and to see lots of people on the Triangle eating ice cream cones!!

If you are donating a basket for Benefit for Beth, please let me know at Kathy's Email  For more info, please check this out:  Benefit for Beth: Welcome to the Benefit for Beth Blog
