Donations Sought for So. Lehigh Horse Trainer Who Suffered Stroke

Horse trainer Jimmy Wray, of Coopersburg, suffered a stroke Nov. 15. With little insurance to help cover his medical bills, friends have been donating to an online fund established for his benefit. So far nearly $5,000 has been raised.

A well-known Southern Lehigh area horse trainer suffered a stroke Nov. 15, and friends are rallying to help pay for some of his medical expenses.

An online fund has been established to benefit Jimmy Wray, a longtime Coopersburg resident who was released from the hospital on Thanksgiving, according to information posted online.

As of Monday, nearly $5,000 in donations had been raised via the GoFundMe grassroots donation site, where the fund to benefit Wray was established by Dawn Herman Conway.

In her description for the campaign, Herman explained that Wray "is a man who has loved, cared for, and built his life around horses."

Several of the horses Wray has worked with over his 40-plus-year career "have made it into the top ranks of show jumping, including Bold Pisces who competed successfully at the Grand Prix level," Herman noted.

"Any amount of money we can raise for his bills and living expenses will help him," she added.

The campaign has a goal of raising $25,000 to help Wray pay his medical bills.

"While he has been released from the hospital, he has a long road to recovery and as an independent horse trainer, his bills will far outstretch his medical insurance," wrote another friend, Kat Lehman, in an email.

Help from members of the local community will be most appreciated, she said.
