Five Things to Know Today: March 15

If you're a dictator, hide your knives; it's the ides of March.

1.  Weather: Mostly sunny with a high of 53, according to the National Weather Service, with a calm wind. Sunrise is at 7:14 and sunset at 7:08, which gives us about 2 minutes and 42 seconds more daylight than yesterday.

2.  Ask a Moravian: The Emmaus Moravian Church is holding an “Inquirer’s Series” of lectures on five Wednesdays beginning March 16. If you want to know ore about Moravians and their history, this is the place. Lectures start at 6:30p.m.

3.  In Case you Missed It: Alburtis is a small community where some people still go to bed with their doors unlocked. They are not used to crime, so the homicides of a mother and her adult daughter has shocked the community. Law enforcement officials call it an isolated incident, but neighbors are locking their doors just the same.

5.  Beware the Ides of March: On this day in 44 B.C., 60 conspirators stabbed Galius Julius Caesar to death in the Roman Senate. The group was led by Marcus Junius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus. Caesar had been elected dictator of the Roman Empire and his death; it was thought would restore the Roman Republic. It did not. In the Roman calendar, the “ides” simply refers to the 13th or the 15th of a month; it’s the 15th of March, May, July or October and the 13th of any other month.
