Five Things to Know Today: Feb. 22

It's a good day to think of Florida.

 1.  Weather: The sun will come out today, according to National Weather Service, but it will be cold with a high under 30. Sunrise is at 6:46 and sunset at 5:45, which gives us about 2 minutes and 34 seconds more daylight than yesterday.

2.  Meetings: Emmaus Borough Council meets tonight at 7 p.m. The regular meeting was moved to Tuesday because Monday was President’s Day. Tonight’s agenda is attached.

3.  In Case you Missed It: Emmaus businesses are making an effort to unite under a social network. Using Facebook and Twitter, a new “Shop Local” campaign is meant to generate local foot traffic.

5Today in History: Today is a good day to think of Florida. On this day in 1819, the United States got control of Spanish-owned Florida. It cost nothing, but to get it, according to History.com, the U.S. had to assume $5 million in lawsuits by U.S. citizens against Spain.
