Five Things to Know Today: Feb. 21

It's President's Day ... celebrate by supporting the United States economy – buy something on sale.

1.  Weather: Snow and sleet this morning and then rain, according to National Weather Service, and as the temperatures drop tonight that rain could turn into an inch or two of snow. Sunrise is at 6:48 and sunset at 5:44, which gives us about 2 minutes and 34 seconds more daylight than yesterday.

2.  Presidents Day: Though George Washington was born Feb. 22, his birthday is celebrated as a federal holiday on the third Monday in February. So, schools and government offices are closed today. There is also no mail delivery.

3.  In Case you Missed It: On Wednesday, an Emmaus High School graduate will start pedaling a bike from Florida to Alaska. He does it to raise awareness about hospice care.

5.  Today in History: The Washington Monument was dedicated on this day in 1885, according to History.com. The 555-foot-tall marble obelisk was actually proposed while Washington was still alive, but it took some time to get around to it. The cornerstone was laid on July 4, 1848.
