'Jeopardy' Championship Features Emmaus High Grad

Laura Rigge, who graduated from Emmaus High School in 2010, will compete in the college 'Jeopardy' championship Monday and Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Final Answer: Laura Rigge

Question: What is the name of the 2010 Emmaus High School graduate who is heading to Los Angeles Monday to compete in the "Jeopardy" College Championship?

Rigge, who lives in Emmaus, will battle Monday and Tuesday (but will air in May) against 14 other contestants who, along with Rigge, are described in a "Jeopardy" press release as “America’s sharpest college students.” The prize is $100,000 and an automatic slot in the Jeopardy Tournament of Champions.

To qualify for the college tournament, Rigge and the other competitors took a 50-question online test. “I saw the test online, so I did it,” Rigge said. “I tried as a teen and didn’t make it.”

Those who passed the test were selected at random to attend regional in-person auditions consisting of a second 50-question test, mock game play, and a brief interview.

Rigge, 20, says she first fell in love with contests that put her intellectual prowess to the test when she competed in the EHS quiz bowl.

“I was in the quiz bowl in high school and just loved it,” says Rigge, a Russian major in her junior year at Wellesley College in Massachusetts. “I have a competitive streak and this is perfect for that.”

Rigge says that her best quiz show subject areas are literature and history.

And, which subject area would be a “nightmare” Final Jeopardy topic for Rigge?

“Not anything in particular,” she said.

The College Championship episodes will begin airing on May 6.
