C.E.P.T.A. Participates in Emmaus Community Days

This year C.E.P.T.A. participated in the Emmaus Community Days celebration by hosting a booth and our annual picnic at the North Pavilion. The Community Days event was an excellent opportunity to meet our neighbors and introduce them to C.E.P.T.A. At the booth we talked with local residents about our past and future events. Many people were excited to hear about our upcoming Tuesday, August 20th meeting on "Common Core".

At the North Pavilion C.E.P.T.A. hosted many speakers to provide information to the public. Our first speaker was the 131st District State House Representative Justin Simmons. Representative Simmons took questions from the public for almost 45 minutes on a wide range of topics including fracking, liquor privatization, right to work, the state pension crisis, health care reform (Obamacare), and "Common Core" Federal Government curriculum standards. The following is a link to Representative Simmons's presentation.

Our next speakers were two Lehigh County Commissioners, Mike Schware and Scott Ott. The Commissioners discussed topics like the "Hamilton Crossing" TIF (Tax Increment Financing), and a very interesting presentation on our county budget. They also explained their ideas, and processes to improve the efficiency of Lehigh County.

The final presenter, 134th District State House Representative Ryan Mackenzie spoke on the State Budget and the outcome of the 28.5 billion dollar budget that was passed with no increase to the tax rate for the third year in a row. Representative Mackenzie spoke on the area of public pension reform, school funding increases, initiating
a law to alleviate unfunded mandates for school districts, "Common Core" concerns, mass transportation spending, and prevailing wage. The following is a link to Representative Mackenzie's presentation.
