The Farmhouse at Buena Vista Ready for Events

Red Bridge Events recently received permission from Upper Milford to zone the property commercial.

Derek and Kathleen Miller named their property The Farmhouse at Buena Vista for a reason. The 18-acre spread with a home and barn circa 1850 lies on Main Road East in the Village of Vera Cruz in Upper Milford Township.

Vera Cruz was named after a town in Mexico, so it made sense, Kathleen Miller said, to give their property a Spanish name. “Buena vista” means “good view, a pretty view,” she said, adding, “I think it’s one of the most beautiful properties in the Lehigh Valley.”

In the past, the Millers have made available the grounds of their property for the weddings of friends and family members. But now Kathleen Miller has created her own business, Red Bridge Events LLC, and on July 11 she received permission from the Upper Milford Zoning Board to zone the property commercial.

Now Miller will be able to charge a fee for people to use the grounds of The Farmhouse at Buena Vista for a variety of events. For example, she said, the grounds could be used for weddings and wedding receptions, corporate events, family or high school reunions, and picnics.

The Millers lived in England before moving to Pennsylvania 13 years ago. Derek Miller, a chemical engineer, worked then at the Air Products’ European headquarters in the County of Surrey outside London. Kathleen Miller is originally from Los Angeles.

Upon moving to Pennsylvania, they initially lived in a subdivision about three miles from their Main Road East farmhouse. Nine years ago, they learned about the stone farmhouse, however, checked it out and fell in love with the property.

Both the house and the barn were in excellent condition. The property also boasts a red bridge that spans Leibert Creek, a fish pond, a spring house and beautiful vistas on 18 acres of protected wetlands.

Miller already has received a few inquiries from people interested in using the grounds for events. Also, because she is a Blue Star Mother – two sons have served in the military – Miller is offering a discount to people who have ties to the military.
