For a Taste of Home, Head to Cracker Barrel

This restaurant is famous for serving up warm, home-style meals.

If the words “comfort food,” “hearty” and “southern-style” perk your ears up, give Cracker Barrel a try for your next meal out. Whether you’re there for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you’re sure to leave with a good meal under your belt.

With dozens of vintage signs and memorabilia and a giant fireplace complete with an oversized checkerboard “rug” to play on, Cracker Barrel is all about feeling at home (they even have rocking chairs on the front porch). And to top it off, there is an Old Country Store connected to the restaurant that sells everything from candles to clothing to vintage toys and candy. So if you’re waiting for a table, keep yourself occupied by checking out the many knick knacks.

As for the menu – Cracker Barrel is known for its breakfast, so they serve it all day. Some of the most popular items on the menu are traditional country breakfast foods like grits, buttermilk biscuits, and their famous hash brown casserole (shredded potatoes mixed together with cheese). The breakfast menu also features home style twists on classics like pancakes (the Wild Main Blueberry ones are my favorite), French toast, oatmeal, and muffins.

For lunch and dinner, you’ll find an array of salads (like Oven Roasted Turkey, BLT, and Country Chef), sandwiches (Open Faced Roast Beef, Grilled Chicken, and Country Ham), and “Fancy Fixin’s” like Meatloaf, Haddock, Steak and Chicken. There are also country-inspired entrées (like Grilled Pork Chop, Country Fried Steak and Fried Chicken Livers) and daily lunch and dinner specials.

My meal: The Chicken BLT sandwich and a side of hash brown casserole (I couldn’t resist). Both the food and service were good, so I’m going with a 5/5 for this one.
