Cash Mob Hits Emmaus Business

Downtown Emmaus was mobbed - in a good way - as a cash mob arrived to support local businesses.

On Saturday, the "mob" met with cash in hand at the and then mobbed the Once is Not Enuff consignment shop at 538 Main Street.

Plans are in the works for two more Emmaus cash mob events, businesswoman Donna Marks told Lehigh Valley Live. Marks owns the and helped organize the recent cash mob as part of Emmaus Main Street Partners, which promotes business downtown.

Cash Mobs are a national trend using social media to galvanize shoppers who meet at a designated place, then descend on a local business to spend money. The battle cry of cash mobs is "shop local."

"Every dollar spent locally has a 15 percent more positive impact on a local economy than the same amount spent in big-box retailers and businesses that are part of a corporate giant," according to cashmob.com.

The Emmaus cash mob follows similar events held in March in Bethlehem and in April in Easton.

On the third Saturday of every month, a business will be cash mobbed in Carbon County, which neighbors Lehigh County to the north.

One of the unique shops in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia will be cash mobbed on July 26.
