‘Car Talk’ Over but not out on WDIY

Last week, Tom and Ray Magliozzi – better known as the Saturday morning radio mechanics Click and Clack on NPR's "Car Talk" – , but that doesn’t mean the show will disappear.

“Car Talk is not ending,” said Rebecca Walz, Director of Development and Public Relations for WDIY, Lehigh Valley's Public Radio. “Click and Clack are retiring, as of October, and they will not be producing new programs. But Car Talk will continue to produce a ‘new’ program on a weekly basis, using archived material.”

WDIY, based in Bethlehem, broadcasts the show twice a week at 88.1 FM, 93.9 FM Easton/Phillipsburg and 93.7 FM Fogelsville/Trexlertown.

“Car Talk” will remain in the , schedule on Saturdays from 10 to11 a.m., and Fridays from 6 to 7 p.m.

“After 25 years of production, we are confident they will be able to produce meaningful, fresh sounding programs.  And they won’t be ‘throw on a tape’ reruns,” Walz wrote. “They are going to produce a show each week as if it was a new program; using the top tier of over 25 years of material.”

The show was first broadcast on WBUR in Boston in 1977. It's now the most popular program on NPR and is heard coast-to-coast.

Tom is now 74 years old, while Ray is 63.
