Best in Bloom Brightens Emmaus

On a dreary Saturday, blossoms, art and music added some color and song along Main Street and Triangle Park.

Rain and high humidity couldn't keep folks from walking around downtown Emmaus on Saturday, June 11, as shop keepers from the decorated their porches with beautiful displays of summer flowers. Large "flower" balloons framed where many of the day's events played out.

For the third year, the "Best in Bloom Art and Garden Festival" was held along Chestnut and Main streets in Emmaus. Activities were held throughout town from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

hosted the site where Ten Thousand Villages fair trade products were available for purchase. Items included handmade instruments, novelties, home decor and children's toys.

Musicians entertained passersby from a canopy shelter at Triangle Park where a variety of vendors displayed art, jewelry and even sold Girl Scout cookies.

A face painter was also on-hand to entertain the younger bunch.

moved its activities indoors to avoid a rain-out, but proceeded with its full agenda, including carnival-style games, a Kung Fu demonstration, arts and crafts and a bake sale.

In addition to the annual Best in Bloom Festival, the newly initiated Second Saturday Sidewalk Sale also took place throughout downtown Emmaus on Saturday, though many vendors chose not to set up due to the ominous weather forecast.

Although it was a fun way to spend a Saturday, the word on the street was that many are hoping for sunnier skies for next year's event.
