A Diamond in the Rough: Stooges Bar & Grille

This Allentown bar is the place to go for good food and good beer.

If you’re looking for some good beer (I always am) and some casual food, look no further than Stooges Bar & Grille. With only two rooms, the place is pretty small, but it’s always full of people kicking back and enjoying the evening. You can grab a seat at the rectangular bar, brightly lit with stainless steel track lighting, at a high-top table, or at a corner table, lit dimly with sconces, for more privacy. There are several televisions that are always playing sports and a modern-day “juke box” on which you can play an array of music.

Stooges always has a good variety of micro-brewed beers on tap, like Victory HopDevil or Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy and a refrigerator filled with even more micro brews like Abita Purple Haze and Leffe Blond (one of my Belgian favorites). And when you’re hungry, you’re sure to find something appealing on the menu. It features a variety of appetizers not found at many bars, like Crab & Shrimp Spring Rolls or Sweet Potato Fries, and a long list of burgers and sandwiches like the Artichoke Chicken Parm Wrap, the Fried Fish Sandwich, or the “Smothered” Burger.

And don’t forget the wings. Stooges offers 14 different sauce choices, including Mango Chipotle and Balsamic Honey. They also offer hot dogs! I’ve tried a number of things, and each time, the food is fresh and delicious (and I’ve never had to wait very long for it to arrive).

My meal: a Sam Adams Summer Ale, Coconut Shrimp, and a Cajun Chicken Caesar Wrap. Both dishes get a 5/5 (especially the coconut shrimp).
