Concordia Family Concert Series - Andrea Wittchen, Harp

CONCORDIA FAMILY CONCERT SERIES PRESENTS

ANDREA G WITTCHEN MARCH 6, 2011 AT 3PM

Andrea G. Wittchen is well known in eastern Pennsylvania as a solo, chamber and orchestral harpist. Principal Harpist with the Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra and Schuylkill Symphony Orchestra for 26 years, she teaches harp at Lehigh University and Moravian College.

 She also is the founder of The Wittchen Initiative, an ensemble of voice, two harps and tuba, performing a repertoire of contemporary, popular and original music with a mission to expand the public's appreciation of the diversity of the harp.

Wittchen has performed with most of the professional groups in eastern Pennsylvania and with such stars as Bernadette Peters, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, Marilyn Horne, Johnny Mathis, Olivia Newton-John, Barbara Cook, Debbie Boone, Rosemary Clooney and Manhattan Transfer.

She holds a bachelor of music degree in harp performance, magna cum laude, from Jacksonville University, Florida, and a master's degree in harp performance from the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester, N.Y., plus a master's of business administration from Lehigh University. She studied harp with Eileen Malone and Marcel Grandjany.

The harp Wittchen plays was built in 1930 by Lyon-Healy Harps in Chicago, Ill. Harriet (the harp's name) is 80 years old this year and has had only two owners.

The Concordia Family Concert Series is a program to engage children in a life-long love of music. We seek to support and strengthen families in our community.
