Youth Association, Scouts Help Prep Lenape Park for Spring

Upper Milford Youth Association and Cub Scouts Pack 31 joined forces on Saturday morning to help prepare Lenape Park for spring.

Oh what a difference a day (or two) makes.

There was surely a chill in the air on Saturday morning when players, coaches, parents and board members from Upper Milford Youth Association joined forces with Cub Scouts Pack 31, Old Zionsville, to do a bit of spring cleaning at Lenape Park.

A chill yes. A couple of inches of frozen white stuff on the ground? Not so much.

That being said, a variety of shovels were put to use -- perhaps even a snow shovel -- as an energetic corps of volunteers moved mountains of mulch via wheelbarrow to the playground areas within Lenape, where it was raked to an even layer under monkey bars, swings and the like.

Those rakes also got a workout on the park's sand volleyball court, evening out a winter's worth of bumps and ruts before a new season's worth of v-ball players put their skills to the test.

Still other volunteers collected sticks and pine cones from infields and sidelines around Lenape's upper baseball field, readying it for this week's practice schedule, which may wind up being postponed for quite a few days, judging by weather forecasts.
