With Gas Prices "Crashing" Where's South Whitehall's Cheapest Gas?

U.S. gas prices have dropped 46 cents a gallon over the past two months.

Gas prices in the United States have dropped by 10 cents in the last three weeks, according to the Lundberg Survey of fuel prices, which was released Sunday.

The Associated Press reports that the average cost for a gallon of regular gasoline was $3.38.

In and around South Whitehall the cheapest places to fill up your tank Monday were the Hess at 702-716 N 19th St & W Tilghman St for $3.47; Hess at 3890 Hamilton Blvd. and Lincoln Avenue for $3.49; and Exxon at 301 N. Cedar Crest Blvd. and Chew Streets and College Heights, $3.49.

Prices were considerably lower in New Jersey, with gas stations there charging $3.20 a gallon, according to figures from MapQuest.

Trilby Lunberg, publisher of the Lunberg Survey, told CNN the drop in prices was due to problems at refineries being resolved, as well as a seasonal drop in demand for gasoline.

The CNN report notes that the cost of gas is still -- on average -- 8 cents higher than this time last year.

Crashing??? Crashing? Are prices where they were 4 years, at $1.90/gal? When they are, then you can call it crashing.

True enough, Charlie! However, the headline is just referring to the past couple weeks.

Gas prices are never going to be $1.90 again unless a law is passed to stop speculators on Wall Street. And that isn't going to happen any time soon.
