Widespread Showers and Thunderstorms Wednesday Evening

Showers and thunderstorms will make a return Wednesday afternoon and evening as a slow moving cold front slowly pushes through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas.

Clouds with isolated showers can be expected this morning as a warm front drives through the region.  Winds will veer to the southwest at 10 to 20 mph behind the warm front.  Temperatures will rise into the lower to mid 80's over the New York City metropolitan areas and mid to upper 80's over the Philadelphia metropolitan areas.

A cold front will slowly drive through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas this evening before stalling off the coast late tonight.  Widespread showers and thunderstorms can be expected in the afternoon.  The strongest thunderstorms will be capable of wind gusts over 40 mph, very heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and hail.  Winds will veer from the southwest to northwest at 10 to 20 mph.  Temperatures will fall into the upper 60's to lower 70's for lows.

A wave of low pressure will develop along the cold front by tomorrow morning with periods of showers, especially along the coast.  The showers will linger into tomorrow after before clearing from west to east.  Winds will back to the north and northwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 80's for highs.

High pressure from the Great Lakes will take hold Friday and then slide east towards the New England coastal waters by Tuesday.  A back door cold front will keep the threat for isolated showers in the forecast, otherwise scattered cloud cover can be expected.  Low temperatures will range from the mid to upper 60's.  High temperatures will range from the lower to mid 80's over the New York City metropolitan areas and mid to upper 80's over the Philadelphia metropolitan areas.
