Not Much Known About History of Old Zionsville Fountain

The fountain is now gone, but monument still remains.

You may not know much about history, but Emmaus Patch is going to help change that. Every Friday in July, you're invited to join Peggy Heminitz for a brief history lesson. Peg will share a local photograph and some historical fact about the place we call home. We promise there won't be any tests!

This week, we're focusing on the Old Zionsville Fountain:

Not much is known about the monument/fountain, located on, appropriately, Fountain Street in Old Zionsville near .

According to long-time resident Henry Beitler, "It was built in 1922 to honor the boys who returned home from World War I."

There was, at one time, a fountain which residents used to get water for drinking or other uses. Eventually, Beitler said, the county stepped in and deemed the fountain unsafe for drinking and ordered it to be removed.

Now, all that remains is the monument portion which reads:  In honor of the Boys of Upper Milford Township, Militant and Triumphant in The War of Nations.
