Macungie VFW Holds Memorial Day Church Service Sunday
A wreath was placed on the grave of a recently deceased Navy veteran from WWII. A Boy Scout bugler played "Taps."
On a foggy, misty morning, with intermittent showers, the Macungie VFW Post 9264 honored the country’s fallen soldiers at the cemetery of May 27.
Following the regular church service, church members and VFW members gathered at the grave of recently deceased Joseph Dwornak, a Navy veteran from World War II. A wreath was placed to represent all the soldiers who have given their lives in wartime.
Three carnations were also placed at the grave:

- A white carnation to symbolize purity
- A red carnation in memory of those who have fallen
- A blue carnation as an emblem of eternity
A three-volley salute was fired at Dwornak’s graveside in honor of the nation’s fallen.
After the salute, Vincent Cucciara, 14, a member of Boy Scout Troop 71 in Macungie, played “Taps” on his bugle.
